A Herbarium of Absence

Metal Veins & Archives

About this study

An imaginary copper frond extends diagonally from a charcoal paper envelope. Most leaf surfaces are absent, leaving metal veins and breaks. Three mica capsules catch light at the tip, while a detached leaf casts a fine shadow on blue, turning a botanical archive into a material record of absence.

Botanical archives, absence and material permanence become bare copper veins, mica pods and a paper envelope. Painted lifelike specimens and curtain suspension are replaced in an AI-assisted metal botanical sculpture concept.
